My Wedding Dress

This weekend was the best! My mom and I have been planning for weeks to go shopping for a wedding dress. My sister was very determined to have us shop in Springfield. I think she really wanted us to come visit and eat. The night before my sister took us out to Nakoto. (a Japanese steakhouse) I should have known better than to eat that much before we went dress shopping! Seriously. Okay so the eating doesn’t stop there. The next morning we went to a Belgium waffle house for a huge breakfast and Andy’s ice cream that afternoon. Craziness! The day we went shopping my sister planned out all these places for us to go. The first place was David’s Bridal. Less than exciting. Some of their dresses were okay and Mom and Christie were sure we found the “one.” However I was less than convinced. The next store we went to was called Karl’s. It was really nice and we liked a few dresses in there. But when I put on Kiri by Maggie Sottero I was sure it was the one I wanted. It was everything I wanted in my wedding dress. It has lace and a ribbon and a beautiful train. I could finally see myself walking down the aisle. However we had one more appointment at McDaniels. The girl pulled a few dresses and luckily they had the one I wanted from Karl’s. Putting on those dresses I was pretty convinced of the one I wanted. I’ve never been pulled in so tightly with corset backs. I’m pretty sure I was loosing circulation towards the end. I tried on one more dress and I know Mom and Christie liked it even better than Kiri. It came down to those two. I went with my gut and chose the one I wanted the most, Kiri. I’m so excited! It won’t be here until February or March so I’ve got awhile to wait. I’ve got to say I don’t know what’s better the dress or my veil. My veil is awesome. I’m going to have to find another use for it. I don’t care if all I get to do is clean house in my veil- I will. It’s a lot of fun. I would post pictures of my dress but seeing as Tyler is my only reader… it would kinda defeat the purpose. Right now the next step is thinking about invitations. I’m also crunching numbers on our reception and photographer. There is a way I can save a lot of money but I don’t want it to look like a friend took our pictures. There is a certain polish professional photography has. I’ll try to update more often especially as Tyler and I get closer to our wedding date! August 7, 2009!

Live from New York, It’s SATURDAY NIGHT!

As interesting as politics have become over the last few months, I thought I would pay tribute to the lady keeping Washington together-Tina Fey. Some companies would probably kill to have the publicity Sarah Palin has received from these SNL skits. It is even rumored the actual Sarah Palin will be taking the SNL stage and saying those famous words “Live from New York, It’s Saturday Night!” Biting my nails in anticipation, I hope she decides to go on the show. Those skits are genius. The material is hilarious and my hat goes off to Tina Fey for truly capturing the Alaskan Governor (and her accent!). That being said Amy Poehler does an outstanding job as well giving us the Hillary Clinton we’ve all come to love. I would post the videos but due to some content and bad quality I think it would be better just to goto the nbc.com website. The lastest video feautes spoofs of the vice-presidential debate which is hilarious. Honestly I saw the spoof before the actual debate. I defiantly hope there is more to come.

We’ve Only Just Begun

During the last month my mom and I have had a blast looking through magazines and picturing the wedding. There is defiantly more to this than I first realized. So far no official wedding plans have been made. We are sure we will be getting married next August though. I think it’ll be a beautiful time of year and I really hope our honeymoon plans work out. Before this week, we had discussed the possibility of going to Texas and visiting the zoo, Six Flags, and finally relaxing at the beach in Galveston. However, Ike got there first. We are hoping that everything will be ready for tourists again soon. Last night we sat down and talked about our VIPs and colors. Deciding on colors is a really hard decision. Tyler and I were joking last night how non-committal I am towards colors. At this point I have it narrowed down (I think) to a few possibilities.

Red & Blue

I saw this in a Martha Stewart magazine and thought this is very bold and different. I like the word Tyler used: Trendy. The reservation I have about these colors is the ease at finding things to match and the likelihood of pulling it off. I think if I were to pick these colors the blue would not be as bright as the pictures that are aqua. I would have maybe a steel blue for bridesmaids dresses and deep red flowers. Pink & Red

These colors are a little more traditional and would be easier to find. It kinda reminds me of Valentine’s Day though. Also the pink shown in these pictures would not stand out very much against a white dress. I think these will be my fall back colors.

Green, White, & Black

I really love these colors. However, the MOB (Mother of the Bride haha) does not care for these colors very much, but again I think it makes a different statement. It is bold and fun. Although having black bridesmaids’ dresses would probably bring Hurricane Lois and Tyler I have entertained the thought many times.

I am still very open to color choices and hope to get a lot of input from my friends.

Tyler and Loren’s Engagement Story

This is our story. Since we have been in school trying to finish a lot of hours this summer, Tyler told me the last day of school we were really going to celebrate. I had been looking forward to it for two weeks! He built up that weekend to be a lot of fun and relaxation. All week I had been asking him what the weekend plans were and how we were going to celebrate. It’s safe to say I probably had been bugging him trying to figure everything out, since it is my nature to be curious. Thursday Tyler decided he wanted to build my suspense even more and I couldn’t ask him anymore questions-in fact we were even going to talk to each other until “more information presented itself.” So that night it’s safe to say I didn’t sleep very much. Friday I woke up early and waited around, waited and waited. I decided to take a nap and then Yvonne called and said she needed help downstairs in the office. I made it down to the office and come to find out she needed my help writing tenant names on gift bags. After I finished that I went back up to my dorm room and found a huge bouquet of pink and white lilies and a note. Those lilies were gorgeous. They are my favorite flowers. The note said that the entire weekend was devoted to celebrating the end of summer school and relaxation. It also said we had reservations at 7:00 for Shogun but he would be coming by my room at 6:00 for “pre-celebration” festivities. I was so anxious. I hadn’t talked to Tyler all day and I knew he had two finals that morning. I wanted to see him so bad but from what I guessed his car wasn’t parked near mine and he wasn’t home (even though he was). I first called my mom and told her about my flowers and what I knew to that point what was happening that night. I was so excited. I texted Tyler to thank him for the flowers and he said I could come talk to him (finally!). We talked for just a little bit and I’m so glad I thought then to take a few pictures and pack my camera for the evening. I rushed to get ready and then waited and waited for what seemed like forever until 6:00 came. At six, Tyler knocked on my door and when I opened it, he was carrying two fancy glasses and a bottle of sparkling grape juice in a bucket of ice. I was very surprised. I could tell Tyler went through a lot of thought and trouble to make that night special for me. We sat in my room and had a glass laughing and talking about what we would be doing that night. Afterwards, we left in his car to go to Shogun. The food was delicious! It was so much fun to sit and talk with him and watch our food being made. We each had steak and shrimp with sweet tea. I ate way too much. Tyler had a lot of food left over which we piled into a “to go” box which I left on the table. Once we were out of the restaurant Tyler wanted to kill time and so we decided to get his new suit from Dillards. I still had no idea what we were doing after we left from the mall. After we got his suit we get back in the car and he opens the glove box and pulls out a hand towel. He told me he had a big surprise for me but didn’t want me to know where we were going. I went along with it and tied it around my eyes. I wasn’t even sure he would know where he was going. He is bad with directions without my help : ). He said he downloaded a map and dug it out of his console. At this point I am really nervous. Tyler had been so sweet to me. In the car he plays “The Heart” on XM Radio even though the songs that were playing were awfully sappy. We finally park and he tells me immediately I still can’t take off my blindfold and he would come and get me. He runs around the car to my side and gets both my hands. We walked just a little bit and finally he takes the blindfold off and asks me if I know where we are. We are standing in my front yard and I said, of course I do, we are at my house. Then he said “No, we are at the place where I said I love you for the first time. “ Then he got down on one knee and said “I want to love you forever. Loren, Will you marry me?” And got out my ring. At this point I cried. I don’t think I even said anything but nodded my head. Then we hugged for a long time and I continued to cry. : ) I’ve never been so happy in my entire life. I feel like it has been a princess story for me. Once we stood up he said there’s one more thing. He opened his car and pull out his laptop and played “That’s All” and “Quando, Quando, Quando” as we danced. It was the best night of my entire life. Being engaged is more than I ever dreamed this would be like. I haven’t quit come back down to earth yet. After our dance, we went in the house to talk to my parents and I finally find out my parents (and Sarah!) had known for awhile and I had been at the house all week! My mom did a wonderful job at keeping the secret. The day Tyler came over to ask my parents for permission my mom had told me the Mayor was coming by to talk to Wyman about a job offer. My mom insisted I leave where she could clean the house and get ready for the Mayor. I was pretty upset about getting kicked out of my house and I wasn’t even allowed to know what was going on in my own family. I don’t even think I said “bye” to my mom when I finally left the house that day. Well it turns out that the Mayor was in fact Tyler and that’s why I couldn’t stay around. I’m glad I didn’t figure it out or anything. It was the surprise of my life! I love Tyler more than ever.
